Natalya Salo (PR)



The 2024’s MVP is Natalya Salo (PR). Natalya won the Triple Crown leading Union Co. in batting average, homeruns and RBI. Nayalya hit .532 on the season, hitting 7 homeruns and knocked in 30 runs for Porter Ridge. Ms. Salo collected 33 hits along with scoring 12 runs and smashed 8 doubles and a triple for Coach Allran. She was named SCC Player of the Year and All-SCC this season. Ms. Salo knocked in a season high 5 RBI twice and hit a career high 3 HRs in an 11-1 win over Providence. Ms. Salo is the 1st player in at least the past 15 years to win the elusive Union Co. Triple Crown!

On the mound Ms. Salo was steller with a 14-5 record along with4 striking out 184 batters to go with a 1.82 ERA for Porter Ridge. Natalya recorded 10+ K’s in 5 games including a season 17 K’s vs. Legion Collegiate Academy. Ms. Salo recorded her 500th career strikeout in a 12-2 win over Sun Valley. The Pirates advanced to the 2nd round of the state 4A playoffs. Natalya will continue her academic and softball career at Wofford College. Congratulations Natalya!

Joella Thomas (W)



The 2024 Cy Young award winner is Weddington’s Joella Thomas. Joella finished the season with 16 wins to just 5 losses. Ms. Thomas lead Union Co. with 234 strikeouts and a Union Co. leading 0.83 ERA. Joella threw 4 NO-HITTERS during the season, including 2 in the 4A playoffs. Recorded 14 games with 10+ K’s including a season high 21 K’s in a regular season win over Charlotte Catholic. Joella was named All SCC and the SCC Pitcher of the Year.

At the plate Ms. Thomas hit .378 on the season with 31 hits, drove in 29 runs, scored 8 runs, added 4 doubles, 1 triple and smacked 3 HR’s. Ms. Thomas drove in a season high 7 RBI in win over Independence. Drove in 5 runs in a win over Myers Park. Joella helped lead the Warriors to their 1st SCC title in 22 years and into the 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP series. Congrats Joella!
